Investing Where It Counts

Successful living rarely comes to us by accident. We invest in our homes, in our cars, in our clothing, in our food and all is well and good, at least to some degree. Sometimes I fear we may overlook investing in our spiritual life. Jesus did caution us in Matthew 6:19,20 19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” So, we can chose to invest in temporal things or things that will last forever. The Apostle Paul deals with this issue in 1 Timothy 4:8 where he tells Timothy, " 8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come." He clarifies the priority of investing in spiritual/eternal things. So Paul confirms His conclusion in where one should invest most in 2 Corinthians 4:8: 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. True success for the "here and now" is in bigtime spiritual investment, things we can carry with us that draw us closer to Jesus and our love for Him.
